Promoting the Treatment of Hearing Loss

Meet Eric Jackson – World Champion Kayaker and Entrepreneur, Joins Forces with ReSound to Promote Treatment of Hearing Loss

In 1966, at the age of two, Eric Jackson contracted scarlet fever, which caused him to completely lose his hearing in both ears. Over time, his hearing has been partially restored, but he relies on hearing aids and lipreading as tools to help him communicate.

But Eric has never let hearing loss stop him from enjoying life and pursuing his ambitions.

He is a four-time world champion and Olympian who is considered the most successful freestyle kayaker in the history of the sport. For the past 15 years, he has coached almost every gold medal winner in freestyle kayaking, including his son Dane, a world champion who also lives with hearing loss.

In 2016, Eric added competitive fishing to his resume, qualifying for the FLW Pro Bass Tour where he has been competing against the best tournament anglers in the world.  In 2021, he will compete in the inaugural season of the National Professional Fishing League.   Eric is captain of the USA Kayak Fishing Team and the current Pan Am Kayak Fishing Champion.

If that’s not enough, he is currently launching a new business, Apex Watercraft, following the huge success of Jackson Kayak, the bestselling whitewater kayak brand worldwide, which he founded in 2004.

He also hosts his own popular videos on YouTube.

In the months to come, we will be working with Eric to promote the treatment of hearing loss and the benefits of hearing aids, as he truly represents the Hear More, Do More, Be More spirit of ReSound.

Nearly 37.5 million Americans aged 18 and over report some trouble hearing, and nearly 30 million could benefit from using hearing aids.

Eric was recently fitted with his latest pair of ReSound hearing aids – ReSound ONE – working with Lisa Davidson, his long-time audiologist and owner of Audiology and Hearing Center.

Check out his YouTube video documenting his first fitting of ReSound ONE.  In addition to these video updates, Eric will also be posting his experiences on the ReSound Blog
